Comeback Medvedev Secures First Trophy in Nearly 30 Months

19 of Medvedev's 21 titles have been achieved on hard courts

A resurgent Medvedev secured his maiden title for nearly 30 months with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a former number one, has had a challenging year, achieving just a single victory at the Grand Slams and experiencing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

The player's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and issues with his serve in especial - resulted in him exiting of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with former trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now working with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently progressed in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive triumph over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This represents the player's first trophy after the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard surface from March of the previous year.

Victory also signifies Medvedev has won 21 championships at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I have attended a competition with my children together, so to secure a trophy is really nice," commented tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had been defeated in his previous six finals, featuring in that event earlier this year.

Medvedev's defensive strategy and recurring reactions on court had led commentators to doubt if his skill to compete at the elite level was over.

Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and play assertively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.

The champion came back from a break down in the first set against the difficult opponent, taking four of the concluding five points to take the lead.

Both players swapped service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, attempting for his first ATP Tour title, gained dominance to create a final set.

The opponent defended four early break points in a close deciding set before the Russian secured a break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Appropriately, Medvedev earned the win with a rally at the net, with Moutet unable to control a shot after over two and a half hours.
